Actually it is very good imho.
The reality is that if you're looking for the SDE you'll easily see it on both, but if you try to ignore it then you'll easily ignore it on both. I don't mind the sound at all, having nothing to compare it against. SO you probably want something you can just jump into. There's no real difference between vive and vive pro wands/lighthouses. There weren't a lot of impressions of the Cosmos overall so the positive thoughts on the OLED seemed to surpass any positive impressions of the Cosmos.

My experience is once it is setup the difference between it and the rift s is nearly imperceptible. And then I read here that the sound quality of Vive Pro headphones is pretty bad.
The cosmos flip lid looks fantastic for developers who want to dip in and out of VR. I ended up selling it for what I paid for it and bought a Vive (regular) used with base stations and everything, and it is 200% better.
There are not many reviews online, but I read the Cosmos is one of the most comfortable and light headsets. them being wands. Especially in these dark times of the COVID quarantine.

There are lots of good VR games out there and with Vive you will probably get a 4-6 month free VivePort subscription so this will give you lots to play with. LCD for Cosmos and AMOLED for HTC Pro. Anyway, up to you to do your research and decide. So my personal suggestion is to go with the Pro. Tracking with the Cosmos Elite w/1.0 base stations/controllers should be the same as the Vive Pro w/2.0. It's the same headset just with SteamVR tracking. I would get a Vive Pro kit over a Cosmos Elite kit if i were you, the Pro is being discontinued as a consumer product but it will still be sold to enterprise so it's not going to be a problem to get it repaired if you break it like some people think. Both them are produced by HTC - HTC Vive Cosmos Elite AND HTC Vive Pro (with 2.0 base stations). The Vive Pro is a bit better in darkish games/sims because of its oled screens but I think that the Cosmos is slightly better in brighter games (maybe the majority of games). Or is it similar? We need a much bigger resolution increase to significantly eliminate SDE. For example, in Beat Saber, I couldn't do any levels above hard because the tracking wouldn't always work. If I was looking for a high end system to buy right now that is in stock it would be the Vive pro. It is insane that HTC are branding the new devices as Cosmos given the technical difficulties and poor sales associated with that device. Functionally it's basically the same. An independent and unofficial VR subreddit. I would plump for the base station v.2 system mainly because of resale related to interoperability with new devices.
It offers a great standalone experience and (with the link or similar cable) access to the PC rendered games libraries.
Personally, since these seem to be the same price for you, I would go with the Vive Pro w/2.0. If $'s are no problem then go ahead and buy the Vive Pro full kit w/2.0 base stations/controllers. But I can play Alyx for hours with no problems. In practice you are unlikely to use the additional floor space afforded by v2 because of cable management. Also the vast majority of games are built for smaller play spaces. The Cosmos Elite will not change this and this is one reason I'm reluctant to buy the Cosmos SteamVR faceplate (= Cosmos Elite faceplate) that should be available soon. Cosmos elite and vive pro starter seem like a really competitive package against the index and wouldn't assume a valveindex is best especially given the reality of knuckle controllers and if you attribute no extra value to 2.0 base stations (there is no real advantage to 2.0 base stations for the average home use ). It doesn't seem to happen with an OLED screen, because the diamond pattern doesn't align directly with head/eye movement.

The OG vive and Pro have the same lenses but everything else is different and i would not compare them any further than that btw. While the headset isn’t bad, competitors on both sides (Oculus’ Rift on the low-end and Valve’s Index on the high-end) seemed to offer better value propositions considering their price …
What I also consider is the difference between LCD and AMOLED display. I think you'll find that currently the Cosmos Elite will give you that 'out of stock' nonsense aswell.
The headset itself is a little heavy i have to mount it very tight. Nobody has tried the Cosmos Elite yet, so that question can't be answered right now. (Especially in comparison to HTC Vive Pro) I hadn't issue with the OG Vive, it was ok for me, but I can imagine it can be better. So, that means Valve Index is not a really option for me, because it would arrive in June or later. I also have tried both and prefer the Vive Pro OLED.

You also don't need to worry about mounting/setting up base stations. But which one is better? My advice is to buy a Vive Pro. It is still better than the wands, which frankly now feel outdated and, they have the benefit of mapping better to games for oculus. As an OG Vive user I 100% agree.Sidenote the wands are perfect for Beat Saber due to well. I don't mind spending a bit more for a better experience.
The Cosmos Elite isn't out yet so you may as well wait for an Index (back in stock apparently before Alyx launch). Unless you have a very large play space (+4x4m) I don't think that getting the Vive Pro starter kit w/1.0 is a bad idea and will save you a few $'s. The lighthouses will probably supported longer going into the future, but there's no gameplay advantage to using them.

The knuckle controllers were a bit of a disappointment for me. I was stoked about them but found the finger tracking to be less accurate than I had hoped. So, as I understand - the biggest difference between Cosmos (Elite) and HTC Vive Pro are the displays. However, OLED does have deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, which I feel is more noticeable.

Don't get me wrong though, the Cosmos LCD is pretty good. You will still be able to use Index controllers later if you want to. What I am the most interested are two things - quality of the displays and weight/comfort of the headset.
